Imagine a worldwide community of schools, educators and students with a shared mission to empower young people with the values, knowledge and skills to create a better and more peaceful world. This is the International Baccalaureate (IB).
IB programmes aim to provide an education that enables students to make sense of the complexities of the world around them, as well as equipping them with the skills and dispositions needed for taking responsible action for the future. They provide an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, and that champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas and meaningful relationships.
To meet the interests of our IB Diploma students and the requirements of the IB Diploma Program, we offer 14 different IB courses across multiple content areas. Each IB course is delivered over the junior and senior year, with assessments scheduled at the end of the second year. Combined with the three IB Core Components, Green Valley IB Diploma students are able to experience a broad academic program that aims to challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of ways.
The aim of all IB programs is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes, and other like them, can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities.
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced program of education. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of all motivated students. For these reasons, the program has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.
A common misconception about the IB program at Green Valley High School is that you must be a gifted student to succeed. This is NOT true. Students who do well in our Diploma Program have only two things in common: they love school and they are motivated to learn. We want students who push themselves and who want to expand their horizons–and not just academically. Our IB Diploma students are also athletes, musicians, and competitive debaters. See what our students have to say about the IB Diploma Program.
Green Valley’s 8 period block schedule allows for IB students to take the 7 IB courses and one elective per academic year. They can also take other courses to meet Nevada High School requirements. IB Diploma students must choose six subjects from five groups–studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, science, and mathematics.
